Mrs. Pickerings group follows great directions!

Our first gotcha party was held Friday, September 12th! We always have a dance party at the beginning of the year and it always proves to be the childrens favorite gotcha party all year long. The students must earn five gotcha slips to get to come to the party. All of the kindergarten students and teachers had a great time at our first party!

David Seargant visited with his furry friends!

Author David Sargeant, author, came to visit our school library and shared his special friends with our students and teachers. Mr. Sargeant writes childrens' books about his furry friends. He showed the children some tricks that the dogs can do, and he read them a couple of his books. He even autographed books for those children that purchased a book from him. It was a great show for the children!

Gotcha Party Kick Off

Our Gotcha kick off was a huge success. Our clown, Mrs. Duncan, showed the children how to NOT behave. We explained our three school rules and showed the children what had to be done to earn gotchas. Our Gotcha parties will be next week! Please help your children by encouraging them to earn five gotchas before the big party!

Adequate Yearly Progress

Our schools must meet standards annually based on the No Child Left Behind Act. These goals are called Adequate Yearly Progress. If you meet these goals annually then you are NOT in the category of a school that needs improvement. If you do not meet the goals you are considered a needs improvement school. The scores from the SAT 10 and the Alabama Reading and Math Test are what the state department uses to determine Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP). I am excited to announce that our information was just released from the State Department of Education and we are not in school improvement. The third and fourth grade students at Robinson Springs Elementary School met 21 out of 21 goals. Our students (k-2) do not actually take the test, but we are considered a feeder school. Since our students "feed" into Robinson Springs our Adequate Yearly Progress is determined by their scores. We are so proud of the hard work of the teachers and students from K-4 at CES and RSS.

OUR SCHOOL MET ALL OUR ANNUAL GOALS - WE MET ADEQUATE YEARLY PROGRESS!!

EXTRA PARKING AVAILABLE!

The school has leased some property from our neighbor in order to provide extra parking for busy school days. This is valuable information with Spring field trips coming up and our Honor's Day programs drawing near. The parking on the other side of the chain length fence next to our original parking area is available to our school. Please park in this grassy area when the parking spaces in our lot are full. Please spread the word to other parents so this space is utilized. Thanks for your cooperation!

Other special guests were Angela Dewberry, Bill Roberts, Mayor Houston, Coach Conrad Henderson, Tony Crenshaw, Glenn Halbrooks, JT and LeAnne, Mayor Al Kelley, Jeff Foshee, Jackie Smith, and Mr. McGhee. Groundbreaking Ceremony

Our students were invited to be a part of the Groundbreaking Ceremony for Airport Road Intermediate School that is slated to open 2009. The current first graders at Coosada will be the first class to attend this school. The site where the school is located is absolutely beautiful. The children did an excellent job and seemed to really enjoy the ceremony. We are all very excited about the new facility!

THANK YOU LOWES IN PRATTVILLE

We received a $5,000.00 grant from Lowe's Toolbox this summer to help support our efforts in building a new playground. We were very appreciative of that monetary donation and quickly spent it on play equipment for our students. It was a special surprise this January when Patrick Meehan called our school offering labor and supply donations to our school! We, of course, said, "YES, YES, YES!". His group came out in the pouring, freezing rain for several days in a row to complete these special projects for our students. The Gazebo adjacent to the playground and the picnic tables were completely donated by Patrick's team from Lowe's. They also made the ramp going in to our Dr. Suess house and landscaped nicely around the playhouse. We are very appreciative of their extra effort for our students. We look forward to using our picnic area in the Spring. Thank you to all the volunteers from Lowe's who came out to work for our children. Parents please spend your money at Lowe's, because they definitley support local public education!

2nd Grade Field Trip

Many of our 2nd grade classes went on a field trip to Bama Lanes. They were discussing fractions in Math and were able to relate it real life as they knocked down only a "fraction" of the pins. I wonder if Ms. McGaskill knocked them all down for a STRIKE? It looks like they had a great time on this trip!

PTO February 19th

The Yellow Pods performed this evening and did a GREAT JOB! The PTO discussed the upcoming Spring Fling (April 12th) and expressed a need for volunteers to pull off this special event. If you are interested in volunteering at our Spring Fling please call the school and we will put you in touch with our PTO President. It is always a fun filled event for our children.

The PTO also has artwork items for sale. Your child produced a special piece of art at the beginning of the school year after a study of a famous artist. This artwork has been reproduced on a magnet. The company also offers T-shirts, aprons, coffe mugs.. and the list goes on and on. These will be available at our next PTO meeting in March. We will also hold an Arts Festival April 22nd. This will be the last day to buy your child's special piece of artwork.
