A special visit from santa!

Santa came to visit Coosada on Tuesday. The children were so excited that he came to see them. We had many volunteers come to help with this special occassion. Thank you to all who made this a special day for these children. Santa is coming back to our school on Thursday to see all the children! Santa spends a whole lot of time at our school - because all our boys and girls have been good all year long.

Choir Performance

Our Coosada Choir did an excellent job Tuesday evening. Thank you to the teachers who have worked so hard to get the students ready for this concert. It was a great performance!

Breakfast with Santa

Breakfast with Santa was organized by our PTO this year as a community service. The parents appreciate the opportunity to visit Santa without going to the crowded mall. We had great participation this year and everyone who attended had a great time! Our PTO parents worked very hard to provide this special day for our students. The PTO cooked pancakes and sausage and parents were able to bring their children to see Santa Claus and eat breakfast. Thanks to the PTO for all their hard work. We appreciate our valuable volunteers!

Mrs. Tyler's Polar Express

All of our classes have Polar Express day every year at Christmas time. We read the book "The Polar Express" by Chris Van Allsburg and then watch the movie. The students drink hot chocolate and wear their pajamas to school. Mrs. Tyler sent us pictures of her class enjoying this special day!

Coosada Play House

On December 1st when my name was not called to win the Topsy Turvy House I was so disappointed. I had already decided that I wanted this house for our recess playground. I just knew the children would love to play in this special house. The name that was called instead of mine was Lee Ann Dennis. Lee Ann decided to give the house to a charity in Wetumpka, but that particular charity was more in need of money for supplies than a playhouse. Garner Electric built the house originally and Cathy Garner realized how special it would be for our children to have. Cathy Garner bought the house back from Lee Ann and decided to donate the house to CES. Lee Ann and Cathy both donated money to the charity in Wetumpka in lieu of the playhouse. The house reminds me of Dr. Suess. We have plans in the works to paint Dr. Suess on the house and landscape around this area. The kindergarten students will use the house at recess, and we will also use it throughout the year for other special events. We have already planned a reading event for each class in the house during Read Across America (Dr. Suess Birthday).

We can not thank Lucretia Cauthen Realty,Garner Electric, and all the other businesses that participated in this special project enough for their support of the public schools in Millbrook. I was so pleased to see our community work together to help the schools. The money raised will definitely benefit our students. Thank you Lucretia for this GREAT Idea! Thanks to the businesses who supported the project, and especially thank you to Garner Electric for the donation of the playhouse. I wish you could have seen the children when the playhouse was dropped off. They were very excited and have already had a great time playing in this special house. Millbrook truly is a great community to live in and play in! Happy Holidays!

Christmas Countdown

We are excited about the Holiday Season at Coosada Elementary School. We enter a float into the Millbrook Christmas Parade every year. This year our float won first place!! We had a great turnout of parents to help work on the float and students to ride in the parade. Thank you to all the parents and teachers who helped out with our award winning float. The holidays are such a special time at our school. We have many special projects planned before our Holiday break. Keep checking our blog to see what we have happening at CES! Come and visit us - the whole school is bursting with fabulous Holiday Spirit!

Thanksgiving Meal

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving Meal. Thank you to the cafeteria staff. They cooked a fantastic meal to feed over 1,000 people. That is incredible!! The children had a great time making their attire for this special day. We had many family members to visit on Thursday. We were so excited to see how supportive our parents are of events at our school. We were glad to have all of you for lunch. We hope you can come back and visit real soon. Thanks again to the wonderful Coosada family who all pulled together to make this a wonderful day!

New area to play!

We are so proud of our new playground equipment. We spent over $17,000.00 on our playground area. We were disappointed when we thought we were going to run out of money before we could equip a recess area for kindergarten. We were so excited when a check for $5,000.00 came in the mail from Lowe's. We were awarded the Lowe's Toolbox Grant in June. We spent the entire $5,000.00 on play items for our recess area (two cars and safety materials). This allowed our Kindergarten students a special place to play! Check these girls out - they are having a great time!

Art and Music Room

We were able to obtain a grant from Teacher AirBorne Trust Fund in the amount of $5,000.00 to support our art and music program this school year. We started the art and music room last school year with $1250.00. The students and teachers have had a great time enjoying the resources in this special room. Each teacher has a 30 minute time slot weekly to visit the Art and Music room. The regular classroom teacher does the lesson due to the fact that we do not have funds to hire an Art/Music teacher. We plan to have an Art Auction at the end of the school year. The money earned from the Auction will be used to restock the art and music classroom for next school year. We are always looking for talented adults in the areas of Art and Music to share with our students.

Costume Parade 2007

We have a Costume Parade every year at Coosada on October 31st. The children enjoy this special day where we discuss "make believe". This year the office staff dressed up like the Wizard of Oz. The teachers in each pod also dress up by themes. This year we had some very creative ideas. We had Bo Peep and her lost sheep, Old McDonald and her farm, a group of colorful M&M's, crows and scarecrows, Snow White and three dwarfs, "Mint" to be teachers, Pirates, 1960's ladies, The Seasons, FBI Agents (brain inspectors), Word Walls, 1950's ladies, North/South/East and West, and the California Raisins. The children also dress up in creative costumes. They all look so cute and have such a great time. It was a fantastic day at CES!
